My name is Kara Reid and I am an art director and designer with more than 20 years of experience in both print and web design.
At the start of my career, I worked for Broadway in Boston where I was the designer for all print and web materials. I gained extensive experience creating print and outdoor ads for major theatre productions such as Mamma Mia, Medea, The Producers and more. I was also the photographer for all opening night events and was published several times in The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald.
During my time in Boston, I was the studio manager for public artist Mike Mandel, whose work focuses on transforming photographic imagery into large-scale ceramic tile mosaic murals. Mandel’s public art works have been installed across the country.
After leaving New England, I became senior designer and art director for Quest Fore in the South Side of Pittsburgh. There I was responsible for branding, packaging and ad concepts, as well as publication, video, motion graphic and interactive design. Since 2015, I have been an independent contractor for a wide variety of clients and organizations.
I graduated from Tufts University and The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Mass., with a BFA in graphic design and photography, and a BA in physical anthropology.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, I have traveled across the country, working in places like Boulder, Colo., Portland, Maine, and Boston, Mass. My husband Thomas and I moved back to Pittsburgh where we have been taking advantage of our "most livable city" ever since. When I'm not working, I spend most of my time running after my two girls, Hadley and Parker.
